The Sense of Touch
1. Gather some different objects from around the house and maybe
even the garden shed (garage/carport).
2. Keep all these items
in the same room for at least half an hour so they reach
room temperature.
3. To make this experiment a bit
more fun, include a few friends in on this one.
4. Use a blind fold
and hand each object to one person at a time and ask them how
the item feels to them; Is it cold, ice cold, warm or hot to
touch?
5. Write down the results of each item in your journal.
Note: Be sure to keep your notes from this experiment being carried
out indoors and then try doing this same experiment outside. If
you have a carport or garage this experiment could be conducted
around the same time.
First conduct your experiment indoors and then
place the same items in a shed/carport/garaged (best to leave
the items for at least half an hour to adjust to the environment)
and record the results for each item as above.. Another test could
be conducted outside on a warm day and then outside on a cold day.
Make sure you write/record the outside temperature outside for each
experiment.
Another fun way you could conduct this experiment is to walk
around your house and touch different surroundings in your home. You
could even do this bare foot touching different
floor materials.
Some articles to test could include:
• Outside Wall (from within
your home)
• Inside Wall
• Metal Bar Stool
• Counter Top
• Washing Machine
• Leather Sofa
• Cloth Sofa
• Hearth
• A Wall Mounted Mirror
• A Window
• A Wooden Floor, Tiled Floor and Carpeted Floor
Be sure that you do not touch any appliances that have been heated
or switched/turned on.
